Spring athletes on the come-up

Spring+athletes+on+the+come-up

The start of the spring sports season is upon us, beginning Feb. 29. Athletes are looking to have a monster season. Baseball, lacrosse, and girls lacrosse all plan to improve off strong seasons last year.

Baseball has to replace big holes after losing four starting seniors last year. Junior center fielder Miller Romm and junior shortstop/pitcher Nathan Bowman look to lead the way for the Patriots. Bowman comes off a big sophomore campaign, after being first team all division last year and being the one of the best overall players, in the box, in the field and on the mound. Bowman played for the Mid-Atlantic Red Sox this summer and trained with former pro-hitter Mike Gibson this offseason while also playing basketball to get ready for the season. “I feel like we have a ton of talent this year and we already are very close as a team,” Bowman said.

Romm led off last year for the Patriots and looks to continue his place as the top of the lineup and control the outfield this year. After traveling the country with Dig In Baseball and also training with Gibson, Romm looks to have a monster season. “I feel Romm and Bowman both will have a big season and help lead us to a state title this year,” junior pitcher/infielder/outfielder Kevin Friedman said.

After a devastating loss in divisional finals last year, boys’ lacrosse lost a couple of starters who graduated, but return their most crucial player, senior midfielder Zane Cohen. Cohen finished first team all division last year and finished with 27 points (goals and assists combined) to lead the Patriots. “I worked out a lot and played lacrosse on the weekends while also watching film,” Cohen said.

Girls’ lacrosse also suffered a devastating loss to RM in the sectional finals last year. Senior attackman Kendall Clark, junior defender Kelly Baldwin, and senior defender Madison Linn look to carry the girls this year.
