A three varsity sport athlete, Megan Lomotan has taken on soccer, basketball, softball and a capella during her first two high school years.

Since her freshman year, Lomotan has been an iconic figure in the school’s varsity soccer and basketball team, showcasing her athleticism and passion for sports. But her involvement doesn’t stop there. During her freshman year, Lomotan also made varsity softball, proving her excellence across multiple sports.

During her freshman soccer season, Lomotan was one of two freshmen to make varsity along with being part of the starting 11 her first year. Her teammates, coaches, family and friends saw the impact she brought to the team. As her second season came to an end, Lomotan once again proved her efforts and passion for soccer were reflected in her playing.

As one of the starting defenders, Lomotan takes leadership roles as well as inspires others with her positive attitude, work ethic and leadership qualities “She’s extremely talented and equally as hard-working, which makes her one of our best players,” varsity soccer girls’ coach Christopher Thompson said.

During Lomotan’s freshman year, she made varsity for the basketball team. Throughout her freshman year to sophomore year, Lomotan became a key player for the team as their point guard; she earned a starting position and played a huge role in their success. Varsity basketball had a record of 11-11; Lomotan’s regular season game stats were 6.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, four assists, 2.6 steals and 28.5 minutes per game. Girls’ basketball’s determination got them into the semi-finals where they played Sherwood. Lomotan had seven points that game.

Lomotan’s ability to score points, grab rebounds and make plays under pressure made her one of the main players on the team. “I like playing with Megan because she plays with so much heart and is always supportive. I think she was a role model for the team this year through her dedication and reliability on the court,” sophomore Maya Bellamy said.

Beyond the fields and courts, Lomotan’s talents also go into music. A member of the school’s a capella group, Lomotan has helped lead her team to extraordinary success this year. With her powerful voice and harmonies, she has played a huge role in the group’s performances, helping them earn the International Championship of High School A Cappella. “Megan is a really important part of our group. The most impressive part is that she balances a super busy schedule and still learns all of her parts for our competition songs quickly. She gives great energy and commitment that pushes the rest of the group,” a capella teacher Keith Schwartz said.

As a student-athlete, Lomotan is forced to be on a constructed schedule to help balance her hobbies. Lomotan constantly adapts to her changing schedule regarding her school sports and sports outside of school. When in season Lomotan practices straight after school for 2 hours with her team, after she goes straight to her club soccer practices for another hour and a half. Regarding game days Lomotan has to make choices of missing her club soccer for participating in her high school games.

She finds time for fun while putting serious work into the field, court, auditorium and classroom. “I balance my high school sports and school by trying my best to finish as much of my homework as I can during school like during advisory, so I can focus on sports after school and not have to worry about getting behind on my work,” sophomore Lomotan said.
