JV Football: Boys stay focused amid tough losses

The junior varsity team had a rough first half to their season, and heading into their fifth game against the Clarksburg Coyotes, the boys were hungry for their first win. In their previous two games, the Patriots took steps in the right direction, so a victory seemed within reach.
Due to inclement weather, the game was postponed. The rescheduled date is in Nov. 3, which will be played at Clarksburg as the final game of the season.
With extra rest, the boys traveled to Rockville to take on the Rams on Oct. 8. The Rams beat the Patriots handily, shutting the Patriot offense out and winning in dominating fashion, 49-0. The shutout marked the second time the JV was held scoreless this season.
“We need to work harder, put in more effort and learn from our mistakes,” sophomore center Andrew Fisk said.
Even with the struggles of the JV squad, the players have been uplifted by the performance of the varsity team. Prior to their match against Rockville, members of the JV team took the sidelines to watch the varsity squad pull out a win against the Rams. “We’re proud of our varsity,” Fisk said.
Through all of the deflating defeats and setbacks, the Patriots are keeping their heads up and still focusing on their first win. Time is running out, as only three games remain on the schedule. On Oct. 20, on the weekend of Homecoming, the JV squad will host the Gaithersburg Trojans, a team that the Patriots beat easily last year. On the following Saturday, Oct. 29, the team will take on the rival Churchill Bulldogs in an away game before finishing with the rescheduled Clarksburg game a week later.
