This time of the year, the most extensive debate is about the better holiday: Christmas or Thanksgiving. Christmas is the most festive and loving holiday. It brings togetherness and is celebrated for an entire month, unlike other holidays. It brings joy to people with music, movies, Christmas trees and lights.

Thanksgiving fans say it should be more appreciated; most people forget about it and jump to Christmas; The gratitude that comes from Thanksgiving and bringing families together should be more acknowledged.

Those turkey eaters believe that Thanksgiving brings interconnectedness. According to Sixty+Me writer Diana Raab, she celebrates Thanksgiving with her loved ones, where they create memories of saying something special about one another to show their gratitude.

Thanksgiving is said to be about giving thanks even when it might be difficult. “For those who have experienced a recent loss, feeling gratitude might be more difficult. However, there is always something to be grateful for,” Raab said.

To proponents, Thanksgiving is the best holiday. “Thanksgiving has all the elements of the perfect holiday — you get to eat delicious food, spend time with family and friends and you don’t even have to leave the house,” Insider writer Madeline Diamond said.

Thanksgiving food is also one of the things that carry the holiday. According to Diamond, there is a variety of food, the traditional turkey and the side dishes make the holiday stand out.

Different activities happen on Thanksgiving. According to Diamond, Macy’s Thanksgiving parade, national dog shows, football games and other family traditions are included.

I must disagree with all of those people. Thanksgiving shouldn’t be more acknowledged than it already is. Unlike Thanksgiving, Christmas doesn’t have a background that began through colonizers.

Thanksgiving should not be about commemorating colonizers. According to Best of SNO writer Bella Crum, the indigenous people involved with Thanksgiving were the Wampanoag; they were treated terribly, so when the chief got kidnapped learned English and made a controversial decision to ally with the Plymouth settlers.

Christmas is the most festive time of the year. According to Diamond, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. “Christmas lights or visiting famous holiday decorations, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate,” Diamond said.

When I think of Christmas, it’s the coziest time of the year with different things to look forward to. According to Diamond, there are activities during this holiday, making gingerbread, decorating Christmas trees, Christmas music, gift giving, Christmas movies and spending time with family and friends.

Christmas brings people together. According to Baylor Lariat writer Will Chamblee, family and friends come together celebrating their love. “Christmas has a unique cultural impact like no other holiday,” Chamblee said.

I believe Christmas is celebrated as the remembrance of the birth of Christ. It brings loved ones together, gift-giving, kind deeds and comfort and peace within each other. The topic of which holiday is better shouldn’t be a debate anymore because both sides have their reasons and appreciation for choosing one holiday over the other, so people should just accept that.
