After winning their first three games of the season, the varsity girls’ team felt on top of the world. The Patriots were already looking ahead to the playoffs instead of looking at their next games and went on to lose five games after their 3-0 start, experiencing a bump in the road for their state champion hopes, but they’ve regrouped and are ready to get back on track.

In the last week of September, the Patriots were ready to play their hardest competition yet against Whitman and Walter Johnson. The Whitman game resulted in a 2-1 loss in a double overtime game to the Vikings.Patriots knew this was one of the best teams in the county, and the team showed they can compete with the best. Next the team played Walter Johnson on Sept. 29. The Patriots gave it all they got but lost again 2-1 in another overtime. Next the Patriots played Churchill on Oct. 1. Although the Patriots had the ball most of the game, they were not able to get anything going on offense, resulting in a 1-0 loss to the Bulldogs.¨Those games were devastating but I think it showed that we are just as good as those teams and going through two overtime loses made are team stronger and gave us more motivation for the next time we play them,¨ junior Lindsey Mcney said.

The Patriots played BCC on Oct.6. The game was competitive and offensive heavy with the final score being 4-3 Barons. After a game cancellation the girls were ready to take on QO on Oct.11. When the final whistle blew the Patriots had lost 3-1. After these losses the team had enough and were more dedicated than ever to finish off the season strong in time for playoffs with four more games to go.

Getting ready to take on a very talented Richard Montgomery team. The Patriots looked great this game with their ball movement and defense, pulling out a 2-1 win, getting them out of their slump and ready to play like they always could. Paint Branch was next on the schedule for the Patriots, and they played hard scoring 12 goals in a dominant 12-0 win. On Oct. 17. Poolesville was next up: The girls had a solid 3-0 win, now getting ready for their last regular season game against Damascus. For the last game of the regular season, and senior night, the Patriots won their fourth straight game 9-0 against Damascus on Oct. 20.¨I think we had a little bump in the road but now we have won four straight games and are looking great as a team. We are going to play Churchill in our first playoff game and we are excited and ready for a rematch,¨ senior Vivian Pisani said.
