Sophomore attackman Michael Murphy slashes to the goal in a game versus Whitman.

Following an opening day win versus Clarksburg, the boys suffered four straight losses versus Whitman, Walter Johnson, Richard Montgomery and Bethesda-Chevy Chase. The boys collected their second victory of the season on  Apr. 20 in a shutout win versus Paint Branch 15-0. Following the strong win, the boys fell to a good Sherwood team 10-4.

In the game versus Paint Branch, everyone got involved, with goals coming from the midfielders, attackmen, and even a defender for the first time this season. Sophomore attackman Michael Murphy and Coby Pinto combined for four goals in the game, leading the way for the boys. “It was a great team win and we had a lot of fun after losing our last four games,” Murphy said.

Sophomore goalie Connor Jackson completed his first shutout of the season in the win. Jackson stopped every shot that came his way and made excellent passes to set up his offense. “I am happy we were able to get back in the win column following a few tough losses. I am overall happy with my performance but I know I have room for improvement,” Jackson said.

Another standout star for the Patriots was sophomore Everett Field. Field tallied in a whopping four goals versus Paint Branch, leading the team. “I am new to lacrosse but I am having a lot of fun with the guys. We had lost a few games in a row so it felt good to get a dominating win,” Field said.

In their following matchup versus Sherwood on Apr. 22, the boys were matched up with a tough Warrior squad who went into the game undefeated. This first half was not as competitive as the boys hoped as Sherwood jumped out to a 7-1 lead. “They had a really good face-off guy and they were all pretty good at catching and throwing,” Murphy said.

In the second half, the boys played a much better game defensively, holding Sherwood to only three goals. Jackson held it down in net and the offense started to click more, even though the score board did not show it. “They were a tough team but I think we got much better after today’s game against a really good Sherwood team,” Jackson said.

On the offensive end, the midfield led the way for the boys with all three of the second half goals. Goals were scored by Field and sophomores Mathew Repie and Daniel Kim. “It was exciting to go out there and compete with my boys against a very skilled team. We left everything out there, and although we did not get the win, it may have been some of the best lacrosse we have played all year,” Kim said.

This past week the boys picked up a 9-6 win at Northwest on Apr. 26, but then suffered a tough loss to Churchill on Apr. 27.
