One girl is eating popcorn, watching “The Space Between Us” in her bed. Another guy is looking at his phone as he is watching “The Office” for the third time. People watch a variety of shows and movies over multiple different platforms. People nowadays tend to pick shows off of what they already like and know. People also take into consideration recommendations in order to pick what they watch next. Both internal and external factors help influence what people want to see.

According to both freshman Samantha Lau and junior Giselle Guillen, “Vampire Diaries” is one of their favorite shows. “Vampire Diaries” is an eight-season sci-fi drama about a girl named Elena who is torn between two vampire brothers in the supernatural town of Mystics Falls. “I like the suspense and plot,” Lau said.

According to junior Ethan Fayne, “The Office” is one of his favorite shows, which he could comfortably watch over and over again. “The Office” is a nine-season sitcom that comes off as a mockumentary about a group of office workers that clash comedically. “I usually stick to the shows I know and like rather than watch people’s suggestions,” Fayne said.

In addition, Fayne also likes to watch “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” another one of his favorite shows. “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is a three-season animation about a bender, known as the Avatar, that has control over all four elements, who suddenly returns with expectations to save the world from the “evil” benders. “It is entertaining and has a good plot,” Fayne said.

Guillen, in addition to liking “Vampire Diaries,” likes watching movies. “The Space Between Us” is one of her favorites. “The Space Between Us” is a romantic sci-fi movie about a boy, first born on Mars, who has a growing relationship with a human born on Earth, and impulsively decides to go to Earth and see her. “The movie is very sweet,” Guillen said.

On the other hand, Lau has “Spider-Man: Homecoming” listed as one of her favorite movies. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is a superhero movie about Peter Parker returning home after assisting the Avengers, and trying to start his life up again with his new found identity as Spider-Man. “It’s suspenseful and interesting, as well as funny,” Lau said. “And I like to watch it with my friends and family.”

In addition, Fayne lists the “Hunger Games” movies as some of his favorites. The “Hunger Games” saga is a series of action movies that start off with a girl, Katniss Everdeen, who takes the place of her sister in a televised competition to the death, known as the Hunger Games. “I like to watch them because they keep me on the edge of my seat; they are very thrilling and they leave me wanting more,” Fayne said.

The vast majority of people watch movies and shows that are easy to put on when they want to relax or get comfortable. These types of content tend to be things within their common interests. “I like to watch stuff at night, rainy days and when I get bored,” Fayne said. “And I tend to only watch shows or movies when a good one I hear about comes out.”
