New year brings anticipated TV shows

New+year+brings+anticipated+TV+shows

As 2017 comes to an end, so do some of television’s best shows that are packed with drama, action and romance. TV fanatics should not worry as there are plenty of new T.V. shows premiering in 2018 that are bound to become new hit shows. Whether you’re looking for a new crime thriller, comedy or drama, television in 2018 won’t disappoint.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace
From the creators of O.J. Simpson v. The People, the Assassination of Gianni Versace tells the thrilling and tragic story of the assassination of Gianni Versace by serial killer Andrew Cunanan. Taking place in the 1990s, Versace was a successful and popular fashion designer. Both Cunanan and Versace were openly gay, and Cunanan made a living by befriending older men in exchange for money. Cunanan then used this money to purchase lavish things in order to impress the gay community. Although Cunanan’s true motive was never confirmed, some speculate that his motive was to gain fame and popularity. The nine episode season will feature former Glee star Darren Criss as Cunanan, Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace and Ricky Martin as Antonia D’ Amico. The Assassination of Gianni Versace will premiere on Jan. 17 on FX. “Crime shows are always really interesting and this case was talked about a lot,” junior David Mejia said.

Good Girls
Reetta, Mae Whitman and Christina Hendricks play three suburban women with a financial burden. Ruby Hill, played by Reetta, is a mother who cannot afford a new drug that costs $10,000 a month out of pocket to help her sick child. Annie Marks, played by Whitman, is a grocery store worker who is being sued by her ex for custody over their child and cannot afford a lawyer. Beth Boland, played by Hendricks, is a wife whose husband lost all of their money on bad investments. All three ladies rob a grocery store and later run into problems with gangs, police and more. With plenty of jokes and crazy scenarios, Good Girls is likely to become a new television favorite. Good Girls will premiere on Feb. 26 on NBC. “Reetta was really funny in Parks and Recreation so I’m excited to see her in this show,” senior Samreen Ali said.

Grown-ish
As a spin-off from the Emmy award winning show Black-ish, Grown-ish is continuation of the story from the point of view of Zoey Johnson, played by Yara Shahidi. In the show, Zoey goes off to college and tries to become an adult without direct guidance from her overprotective parents. Once in college, Zoey is faced with numerous obstacles and quickly realizes that adulthood is harder than it seems. Grown-ish premiered on Jan. 3 on FreeForm. “Since I am about to go to college, this show is more appealing to me,” senior Claire Chen said.
