Both frozen yogurt and ice cream can be enjoyed on a hot summer day. Whether you are in the mood for a classic ice cream cone or a customizable cup of frozen yogurt, both can satisfy a sweet tooth craving.

Sophomore Julia Sullivan bsaid froyo is the obvious answer when given the option between froyo and ice cream. “I think froyo is better because you can add more toppings, whereas ice cream you can only choose a few toppings. You can add so many more toppings to a cup of froyo, but if you get an ice cream cone, you’re mainly limited to sprinkles, ” Sullivan said.
Sophomore Ellie Buchman also agrees that froyo is the better option. She said the combination of ice cream and yogurt is the best of both worlds. “Froyo is better because it has a lot of options and it is a mix of yogurt and ice cream, which are both really good. It’s also fun to pick out your toppings and flavors,” Buchman said.
Even though ice cream offers fewer topping options and is not self-serving, ice cream is more affordable. With the standard three sizes that ice cream shops offer, there are set prices that don’t fluctuate. With froyo, a cup can easily reach as much as $15, but a large ice cream cone is typically $4-$6. For similar frozen dairy products, ice cream is more financially friendly, especially because you know how much you are paying. There are set sizes and set prices, so you’re not left waiting to see if your sweet treat will cost too much.
You don’t know how much your froyo cup will cost until it’s already on the scale, waiting to be paid for. If you accidentally add too much to your cup, the prices can get large quickly. However, in frozen yogurt shops, there is usually a poster that shows the price per ounce, making you more aware of the prices you will pay. You can’t exactly know the specific amount, but it offers a general idea of the price.
When given the choice between frozen yogurt or ice cream, keep in mind the pros and cons of each. Froyo is self-serve while also offering more topping choices, but ice cream is less expensive on average.
