Bruno Mars, widely seen as a pop icon, is recognized for his three-octave tenor voice, live performances, retro style and ability to perform different musical genres. Mars released his fourth solo studio album, The Romantic, on Feb. 27. This marks his first solo LP in a decade, following 2016’s 24K Magic. The nine-track album is described as having a retro-soul and romantic sound. Each song has a different feel, making it interesting to rank them by impact.

At number one is “Risk It All,” which stands out as the strongest track because of its emotional intensity and romantic main melody. The lyrics create a memorable theme throughout the song by conveying the singer’s willingness to do anything for love. The production is cinematic and full; the background music complements the voice as well.

At number two is “Dance With Me,” which works as a strong closing piece. The lyrics talk about a man wanting to dance with a separated lover whom he misses very much. The song brings together the romantic theme and has smooth vocals with a sense of finality.

At number three is “Cha Cha Cha,” which has a fun rhythm. The song also has a danceable beat and playful lyrics; it’s easy to enjoy and replay. It reflects disco and Latin influences and stands out for its vibe.

At number four is “I Just Might,” one of the most recognizable tracks in the album. It has a catchy rhythm and feeling that makes it vibeable. The song focuses on romance in a lively way, which is less intense than “Risk It All” but still enjoyable.

At number five is “Nothing Left,” which is more emotional than other tracks. This song feels more melancholy and slow compared to others. It emphasizes the feeling of loss in a relationship and adds depth to the playlist.

At number six is “God Was Showing Off,” which uses strong imagery to describe the admiration for someone’s beauty. The song has a warm and classic melody with rich lyrics. Although it does not stand out as much as other tracks, the idea behind the piece is interesting.

At number seven is “Why You Wanna Fight,” which highlights the conflict in a relationship. The song displays emotional tension and reveals a different side of love compared to the more romantic songs. The melody isn’t too unique and does not stand out; however, it does bring variety to the album.

At number eight is “On My Soul,” which has a serious tone. The song focuses on commitment, such as promises or vows. While the message is meaningful, the slow pace makes it boring and less engaging.

At number nine is “Something Serious,” which still fits the romantic theme but is less creative. It blends into the album without standing out. The song does not leave a lasting impression compared to the others.

Essentially, The Romantic shows how Mars is sticking to his style. It showcases smooth vocals and romantic beats, conveying love. Each track in the album has its own emotion and meaning. It’s truly remarkable that Mars is making a comeback after a long decade.
