The current trend of body positivity has a component of comparing oneself to attractive others, such as actors. This has led to a resurgence in the popularity of old shows, such as “Smallville.”

In Smallville,” created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and set in Smallville, Kansas, a meteor struck the town, killing multiple people, including Lana Lang’s parents. This incident leaves the town shrouded in mystery for years, as meteor rock, called kryptonite, and a baby named Kal’ El arrive that same day. Kal’ El is found by Jonothan and Martha Kent in the corn fields of Smallville. They decide to take him home and name him Clark Kent.

It does not take long for the Kents to realize he is not a normal child, Clark has super strength and other extraordinary abilities. Because of this, it is difficult for him to live a normal life, as he carries a huge responsibility with little maturity. When Clark finally attends Smallville High, he meets the town’s heart throb Lana Lang.

Although Clark is cautious about revealing his abilities at school, he does not hesitate to save Lex Luthor. Luthor is viewed as dangerous to the town because his father, Lionel, owns a controversial plant in Smallville. Clark saving Luthor builds a strong bond between them and for multiple seasons, Lex always has Clark’s back.

Clark finally has a chance with Lana after she and star quarterback Whitney Fordham break up. However, Clark is hesitant because he cannot reveal his true identity. He also blames himself for her parents’ deaths, as the meteors from his home planet, Krypton, caused the destruction. Lana, however, has no idea that Clark feels responsible. Their flirtatious relationship develops over multiple seasons. Lana becomes both physically and emotionally Clark’s kryptonite as he struggles to get close to her, especially since she wears a necklace containing kryptonite.

The show is exciting and keeps viewers engaged over many seasons. There is a great deal of variety throughout the series, as most episodes revolve around characters reacting differently to the meteor rock. Kryptonite may weaken Clark, but for others, it becomes a source of power. Exposure to meteor rock leads to the creation of characters with unique abilities, such as super speed or even the ability to duplicate themselves.

There are many reasons to watch Smallville, maybe because of your love for the super hero, or the attraction of the cast. “Growing up, Superman was always one of my favorite characters. Watching Smallville feels different because you actually get to see him become who he’s meant to be. I really like that. The casting is very well done as well,” senior Vikram Mishra said.

As the show has become viral on social media for its characters, this has sparked reason for other people to watch it. “It kept showing up on my feed, so I was very influenced to watch it.” junior Meara Libetreau said

Other people had also heard from friends, and gotten a recommendation to watch the show, “I really enjoy Smallville because it is almost like a double life,” senior Andrew Lim said
