Blood Cancer United is an organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for blood cancer and the patients affected by it. The organization supports research, advocacy, and resources that help people battling these diseases. One team involved in this mission is Patriots for a Cure, a student-led group that raises funds and awareness in the community.
The students behind Patriots for a Cure created a branch of Blood Cancer United. These students include juniors Neeki Naderi, Shayna Fleischer and Jolie Ginsburg. They were inspired by the organization’s impact and wanted to help make a difference themselves. “I think we are super motivated to follow through with this, and we are set on making sure we make a difference,” Ginsburg said.
Blood Cancer United has staff members who help support teams during the campaign. One important staff member who works closely with the team is their manager, Katie Money. She guides students throughout the process, answering questions and helping them stay organized throughout their fundraising efforts.
Starting the team took time and preparation. First, the students had to go through a nomination process to be considered for leadership roles. After that, they met with their manager, who asked them questions to see if they were a good fit to represent the organization. Once approved, the team leaders carefully selected members and organized meetings to keep everyone informed and involved in planning fundraising activities. “Being a member of this organization feels really good because everyone is inclusive and we are doing this for a good cause,” junior Edlawit Abebe said.
Patriots for a Cure also focuses on bringing students together around a shared purpose. By involving people from different schools, the group creates a supportive community that works toward raising awareness about blood cancer. Students are able to collaborate, share ideas and encourage others to get involved in helping patients and their families.
In addition to fundraising, the group emphasizes advocacy and education. Members spread information about blood cancer and explain why research and support for patients are so important. Through these efforts, Patriots for a Cure helps students realize that even small actions can contribute to meaningful change.
The main goal of Patriots for a Cure is to raise money for blood cancer research and patient support. At the same time, the team wants to spread awareness and encourage others in the community to learn more about blood cancer and the importance of supporting those affected by it.
The team has already hosted successful fundraising events. Recently, they organized a Chipotle fundraiser that raised around $280 for the cause. They are currently hoping to plan at least one more fundraising event before the campaign ends. “Anyone who reads this, I encourage you to come to any more fundraising events to help out a good cause,” Naderi said.
Although the team already has members, students who are interested in participating can look into getting nominated for next year’s campaign. This gives more people the opportunity to join the effort and help support the mission.
Being part of Patriots for a Cure requires work and dedication, but members say the experience is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that their efforts help support blood cancer patients and contribute to life-saving research makes all the time and effort worth it.
