What’s your favorite season? For years this icebreaker has been used to revive those cold conversations with a pocket full of summer sunshine. The fall can be unbe-leaf-ably boring if you’re drawn to the warmer weather of the summertime. The cold months of waiting for winter to be snow more can be miserable if you’re counting down the days for the flower power of spring. Whether you’re drawn to the summer heat or the winter chill, the seasons still pass by. The four seasons differ in their temperatures, conditions and fans.
From September to November, the leaves regain their warm tones as they fall from the trees. According to sophomore Amelia Crespen, fall is the best season as it’s not too warm or too humid. “It’s my birthday [during the fall]. It’s warm, but it’s still nice and not humid,” Crespen said.
People enjoy the rain showers that bring blooming flowers in spring. According to freshman Thandiwe David, the liveliness of the wildlife and environment is what makes spring the most ideal season. “I like the flowers. Everything is blooming, coming alive. The weather is perfect. It’s kind of like fall but prettier,” David said.
Others prefer the times of warm weather and bright sunshine during the months of the summer. According to freshman Sophia Faberman, having more free time in the months without school makes summer the most desirable and pleasant season. “I like summer because I have school off, so I have time to do other things, such as camp and volunteering. Also, my birthday is in the summer,” Faberman said.
However, not everyone enjoys the falling leaves and blooming flowers of the warm weathered months. Freshman Vivek Dhruv regards winter as the best season because you can add multiple layers when the conditions get too cold. “In the summer or in the spring, it’s really hot and humid…In the winter, we can just put on more and more layers,” Dhruv said.
April showers bring May flowers, but not all people enjoy the rainy and gloomy days that occur in the spring. According to Faberman, the days of rain and the appearance of different bugs are rather unpleasant. “I don’t like the raininess or the bugs. Also, school is usually pretty busy during that season with testing and exams,” Faberman said.
There are pros and cons of every season but a prominent reason why people dislike spring is the presence of allergies. According to David, people prefer fall over spring, even though allergies are also existent in the fall. “Most people like fall for some reason. I don’t understand, cause there’s also allergies in fall,” David said.
Someone’s favorite season might not be universally loved and favored by all. According to Crespen, even though fall is her favorite, not everyone enjoys having to return to school during this season. “I don’t think too many people like going back to school after summer vacation,” Crespen said.
Whether you love your favorite season because of the holidays, weather or activities, not everyone feels the same. Nevertheless, this icebreaker and debate question can still be used to keep conversations from going cold, even if there isn’t always a unanimous answer.
