Sophomore Gavin Hall listens to music while doing chemistry homework. “I love listening to rap and sometimes when I’m studying I’ll listen to classic music,” Hall said.

When I first get to school in the morning, I take out my AirPods, open my music app and find one of my playlists that I want to listen to that day. But as the days go on and I continue to listen to the same songs every day, they become boring. This prompted me to see what music has been released recently, and I’ve found new albums that I’ve taken an interest in.

The first album is from one of my personal favorite artists: “Texas Technician,” by ThatMexicanOT, which was released on Mar. 1. It has 16 songs with the most popular one being “02.02.99” followed up by “Point Em Out,” which features DaBaby. It has a nice fast pace and is good for anyone who likes fast rap. “Texas Technician” has around 69.7k plays across platforms and is a good option for anyone who is just starting to listen to ThatMexicanOT.

The next album is “WE DON’T TRUST YOU,” by Metro Boomin and Future, and was released Mar. 22. The album has 17 songs and the most popular one is “Like That,” which features Kendrick Lamar and has been played around 1.2 million times across platforms. The album itself has been played around 2.7 million times, with the number climbing every day. There are popular songs on this album because of the big names like Rick Ross, Travis Scott and Playboi Carti, but there are also some underrated songs including, “Where My Twin @”.

The third album is recently shorter, “Might Delete Later,” by J. Cole, released Apr. 5. The album has been played about 1.5 million times across platforms with the most popular song being “7 Minute Drill.” While this album has only 12 songs, it emphasizes quality over quantity. My personal favorite song is “Stickz N Stonez,” which features Central Cee and has a great pace to go along with the lyrics. The fact that this album has accumulated around 1.5 million plays across all platforms in such a short amount of time is continued proof that J. Cole is one of the best rappers of our time.

While this next album isn’t as recent as others, it needs to be talked about. “Vultures VOL 1,” by Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign, was released Feb. 10 and has been played around 5.6 million times across platforms, with 16 songs on it. This album is a comeback album for Kanye while also being controversial. The album was delayed three or four times before its release because it was not finished and there were major problems with copyright from other artists’ songs. “Vultures VOL 1” is the first album in a three-album series.
