As winter break approaches, the end of the first semester is right around the corner. From academic achievements, pep rallies and different sporting accomplishments, there is a lot to look back on and reminisce about.

Junior Nyanje Stevens feels upset because of how fast-paced the school year is going, while junior Josie Spicer is excited because she is already looking forward to summer. “It was not horrible but definitely a lot. I’m excited for winter break, it’s needed,” Spicer said.

There were positive parts of the first half of the school year, including school-wide events like homecoming, POTH, pep rallies, fall and winter sports seasons, and watching the middle schoolers run their annual turkey trot. “I liked how there were so many different events and I had a lot of different opportunities. The most memorable thing for me was when my group won POTH for Afroelites. It was really fun,” Stevens said.

Junior Duke Ampofo is excited for the second semester because it is a chance to have a fresh start. “My goals are to get my grades higher and do the best I can so I won’t be stressed senior year about my GPA, which is something I really care about,” Ampofo said.

Ampofo and Spicer both hope to fix their sleep schedules for the second semester. “I need to improve my sleep schedule for semester two, it will hopefully give me a better work ethic,” Spicer said.

Students reminisce about all of the fun hangouts after football games, events like homecoming when everyone got to come together and dress up, and the rush and excitement of the fall season when meeting new people and having all of the fun events was still ahead. “The second semester feels much longer than the first because we have fewer breaks and holidays to look forward to, along with AP testing plus the feeling of summer approaching. Even though all the holidays will be behind me, it motivates me to work hard,” Ampofo said.

Each student has had their own experience and opinions on semester one, but a popular opinion is how fast the school year is going by. Stevens is thankful for all the new people she has met within the last few months. “It was really fun seeing all of my friends and meeting new people at football games,” Stevens said.

Even though the first semester is ending soon, the second semester is almost here, giving students a fresh start and something to challenge themselves with while pushing to be the best version of themselves possible.
