Nintendo has recently had a Nintendo Direct and a Pokemon Presents to inform others about the future of their platform. These announcements gave information about future games, and some of them have fans hyped, while others, not so much.

The Direct started off with the reveal of the new smash characters, Pyra and Mythra from the Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Fans are excited to see new faces take on the battlefield but are also wary to see another sword-wielding character appear. “I think that they’ll be pretty broken, but still won’t change the game too much, since smash is already full of completely broken characters,” junior Diego Valez said.

One of the most disappointing things about the Direct was the lack of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Nintendo announced that they didn’t have enough gameplay to show, so they instead gave a Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword port instead. “I understand that production for a lot of games has been hard because of the pandemic, but the fact that there was no news on one of their biggest [upcoming] games was surprising,” junior Judah Kamadinata said.

Mario Golf was also said to be released soon. With the coming of a new unexpected Mario Golf game, fans are excited to play with family and friends. “I don’t know why but Mario Golf has me more excited than regular golf,” Kamadinata said.

I am very, very excited about the game.

Another big announcement was the news for a completely unexpected game, Splatoon 3. Splatoon fans are excited for the game to release since the announcement for this game was completely out of the blue. “I am very, very excited about the game. I think it looks really cool, and I’m very excited to check out all the new areas and weapons,” Valez said.

Pokemon fans are excited for the upcoming Pokemon games as well, especially Pokemon Legends: Arceus. With a new open-world RPG game for Pokemon, how could one not be excited? “I’m more excited for Pokemon Legends than the remakes, since they’re finally taken the attention off Charizard,” senior Jasper Edwards said.

The Pokemon Company has also decided to create a remake of generation IV of Pokemon, titled Shining Pearl and Brilliant Diamond. This remake was a popular choice among Pokemon fans as they had enjoyed memories from this generation of Pokemon. “I’m a huge fan of the Gen 4 games, it’s my favorite generation by far and it makes me happy that the remakes allow for newer fans to be able to play the games,” Edwards said.

The Nintendo Direct is said to be more lackluster than the Pokemon Presents, though some fans would disagree. Though it is important to note that companies have spent months of hard work in all of these games. “Although you may or may not like the Directs, it’s important that we understand that people’s time and effort go into many of these games, and it’s fine if you don’t like a certain aspect of a game as long as you don’t constantly battle people online about your opinion,” Kamadinata said.
