Runners hope to speed into the spring season with confidence

All the hard work and practices outside in the cold put in over the course of the season has lead to this for the boys and girls on indoor track which is the MPSSAA 4A West Regional Championships.

The Regional Championship took place on Feb. 6 at the Joint Force Headquarters Fifth Regiment Armory, in Baltimore. Seventeen MCPS teams competed. This was the final track meet of the season for the boys and girls.

Senior Andrew Ratliff finished 18th overall and first for the Patriots in the 55m dash with a time of 7.18. Sophomore Sydney Behrens finished ninth overall in the 55m for the girls with a time of 7.76. She was .01 seconds away from qualifying for the finals. Senior Halle Trodec tied for sixth overall in the high jump with a length of 4ft 8 inches.
The end of the season marked the last meet for some seniors. Senior Osagie Aiminuwu said, “Overall, I am generally happy with my last indoor track. I only got a personal record in the 300 meter dash, but I had a lot of fun with the team. I am looking forward to using my training to crush the outdoor season.”

This marks the end of indoor track and field, but track and field will start back up on Feb. 29, the start of spring sports.
