Students voted for their SGA and class officers for the 2024-2025 school year on May 2 and the winners of each officer position were announced on May 6.
Juniors Charlie Rollins and Ryan Shin will act as the SGA co-presidents, assuming the role after the graduation of seniors Alex Balian and Ashi Stanislaus. Rollins and Shin previously held positions as the SGA treasurer and secretary during the current school year. “The leadership role in a group like SGA is different from any other club or group as SGA is already a group full of very strong leaders…Observing SGA from a leadership team standpoint gave me the opportunity to learn what its like to lead this unique team and I believe next year, as co-president, I will be ready to ensure our class will be reaching our greatest potential,” Rollins said.
Rollins and Shin are hoping to recreate a strong school community next year. “We are coming back from a heavy year and a lot has happened over the course of this past school year. My plans mostly include reigniting school spirit and community within our school to help students feel like they belong and can have fun at school. I want to build off the momentum of the fun and exciting events planned last year. However, I want to shift our focus this year to having increased participation and involvement within our school so that it is not just 15 people attending our events,” Shin said.
Sophomores Catherine Bucsa and Gabi Estrada will step into new positions as the SGA secretary and treasurer in the vacancy of Shin and Rollins, and junior Jenny Brailovsky will become SGA historian in place of graduating senior Mikaela Ngo. “I am very excited to step into the historian role. I love being behind the scenes and making sure the moments that matter don’t get missed,” Brailovsky said.
All junior class officers will retain their current positions for the upcoming school year. Juniors Mia Coven, Aiden Scherr, Grant McGraw and Joanna Jacob will continue to act as class president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary. “I am excited to be working in class planning to create the best senior events we possibly can. Senior year is a great way to commemorate all the achievements we have made and come together as a whole class,” McGraw said.
Sophomores Manasa Iyer, Benedict Santos and Sreeyan Nampally will keep their positions as the class of 2027 president, vice-president and treasurer. However, sophomore Jashwin Fernandes was elected to become the new class secretary next year.
As the rising sophomores, the class of 2028 will have four newly elected officers. Sophomores Diba Hamidzadeh, Daniel Liu, Zenia Shaikh and Ted Jeong will become the new class president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
Students reported feeling happy with the work of SGA this year, but that they think there is still room for SGA to improve by communicating better with students and bringing more spirit to events. “I feel like the SGA could do a better job of involving the students more in events like pep rallies,” junior Varun Rajesh said.
