After over a year of social distancing put live music on hold across the country, concert venues have finally begun to reopen in the D.C. area. For high school students who have spent their time socially distanced finding new music and artists, this development is especially exciting. 

Covid precautions differ by venue and will likely remain long after venues reopen. Despite this, students are looking forward to the possibility of gathering safely for concerts in the near future. It is hard not to be excited about the glimpse of normalcy that comes with the DMV’s re-emerging concert scene. 

Junior Sophia Kim is happy to be moving off of Spotify and into concert venues this year. Kim said, “This year a lot of artists I like are starting to tour again so I’m excited to go to some of their concerts. I’m going to go to Mitski and Cavetown in March and I’m really excited because I’ve listened to their music for a while now but haven’t had the opportunity to see them live. There are others that I might also go to, especially if Phoebe Bridgers reschedules her D.C. show. She was my top artist on Spotify last year and I’d love to see her live.”

Among others, Mitski’s performance at the Anthem in March is being especially anticipated by students like Kim, juniors Naba Syedd and Jo Song and senior Mathis Chavez, who said, “I saw the Front Bottoms and I’m going to Mitski, Car Seat Headrest and Tyler, the Creator.”
