High School Musical: The Musical
“High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” is a show about a high school drama club that is producing the school’s first-ever play “High School Musical.” It is based on the roaring success of the movie “High School Musical,” starring Zach Efron.
The show consists of 10 episodes about the drama, affairs, and rivalries going on in the club. “Many of my friends were talking about the show so I started watching and it was interesting, I would recommend this show as it is a completely teen show,” freshman Rishi Iyer said.
Students have watched the show as it grew hype since everyone loved the original “High School Musical.” Themes throughout the show are aimed toward teen audiences, including LGBTQ+ representation and the effects of having divorced parents.
Divorce affects the main character, Ricky Bowen. His mom lives in Chicago while his dad takes care of him. Ricky’s mom returns from Chicago to announce her and Ricky’s father’s divorce. The tension becomes so bad that he has to go live with his friend Big Red to get away from it.
“High School Musical” reveals its first gay couple, which is an improvement for the franchise as they have never had a gay couple before. Instead of the story being about getting bullied and discriminated against for being gay, it shows a cast member and a choreographer and their journey together throughout the show.
The show ends with everyone getting along, doing the play, and receiving high remarks from everyone on how well they performed. After season one, audiences raved, so Disney renewed the show for season two. On “Apr. 8” Disney released the trailer for the new season, which will be released on May 14.
