Warner Brothers Studio release new hit movie
Wonder Woman 1984, starring Gal Godot, takes D.C comics fans back into the ‘80s. The movie also stars Chris Pine, who returns from the previous movie as Steve Trevor, Pedro Pascal who plays villain Maxwell Lord, and Kristin Wiig as the other villain Cheetah or Barbara.
Though less revolutionary than the original Wonder Woman, this long but entertaining sequel shows the ways women can be strong, heroic and smart. The original Wonder Woman came out back in 2017, set in World War I.
With the pandemic, movie theaters have been empty as they pose a big risk for contracting the virus. Warner Bros studio decided to have the movie premier both in the theaters and on the new streaming service HBO Max.
The movie has received mixed reviews as some people love both the movie in general and Gal Gadot’s role as Wonder Woman, and others believe that the movie could have been better executed.
Pedro Pascal was previously famous for his lead role as Mando in the hit Disney plus and Star Wars Show “The Mandalorian.” With his role as Maxwell Lord in this movie it gives the audience a completely different look at what the actor is capable of. “I loved Pascal in Wonder Woman because when I first watched the movie I had no idea that he was also the Mandalorian until someone told me, and I was shocked because he played the role well,” sophomore Alexander Negussie said.
The original movie was about how Diana (Wonder Woman), the princess of the Amazons, meets an American soldier, Steve, who tells her about the massive conflict that’s raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.
Steve dies in the first movie but returns from the dead in the new movie. His return affects Diana and her powers. “I liked how they brought him back, but I think the movie still would have been good if they would have gone a different route without him,” junior Jamie Morris said.
Godot also starred in the D.C. comics movie Justice League, which was a crossover with Superman, Batman and other superheroes. The movie was a let down with its bland plot and fighting scenes. DC comics is remaking the movie with a whole different production team and is set to release in 2021.
Wonder Woman 1984 maybe didn’t live up to all the anticipation but still gave viewers a two hour ride with Diana and the other characters in the ‘80s.
