Last year’s NBA season ran much later than usual due to delays caused by the Coronavirus. Going into the new season, which began Dec. 22, there was tension within the league as players felt their bodies weren’t ready to go back to play with such a short break. The long 82-game season puts tons of stress on the body, and can lead to injury without proper recovery.

Injuries have already proven to be an issue this year. Rising star point guard Ja Morant took a hard fall earlier this season and was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.

Last summer, the teams were placed in a “bubble” at Disney World to prevent the spread of Coronavirus throughout the league. This bubble was effective as not one player or coach tested positive for the virus. “It was very entertaining to watch the players compete in the bubble. It was a completely different atmosphere watching them play without fans,” junior Caitlyn Kwan said.

However, this season has been a different story. Coronavirus has spread throughout the league, having a major impact on the season. There have been rumors of another bubble being formed for the remainder of the season. “I think they should go back into a bubble for the players’ and coaches’ safety,” Kwan said.

The Washington Wizards have already had several games postponed, along with their facilities closing, due to an outbreak within the team. At least six players have tested positive so far.

Last year’s NBA champion, the Los Angeles Lakers, led by Lebron James, are showing that they have a real chance at back to back championships as they begin to embark on the new season with dominant play.

Several big trades happened prior to this season. Wizards star John Wall was traded to the Houston Rockets along with a first round pick for all-star veteran Russel Westbrook. The Wizards began the season with five straight losses, leading fans to believe the trade was unsuccessful so far.

Additionally, star point guard James Harden was traded from the Houston Rockets to the Brooklyn Nets in a blockbuster deal, following controversy over his work ethic and lack of focus on his team. “I’ve been the biggest James Harden fan ever since he broke out as a star on the rockets,” junior Ben Ehrman said
