The powerful new Xbox series X was released on Nov. 10, selling at retailers for $500.

Both the new Xbox and the PS5 came out this past week. These two consoles are big
competitors. The Xbox is owned by Microsoft and the PS5 by Sony. There is a lot to consider when deciding which system to purchase, and it is important to think about all of the different aspects before purchasing.

The Xbox came out with two versions: the Xbox Series X and Series S. The Series X costs $500, compared to $300 for the Series S. Both the Series X and Series S can run the same games and play online together. The graphics are significantly better on the Series X, and the games will run much smoother. “Personally, it was a difficult decision on which to buy. I chose the Series X because I knew I would be using it for a long time, so it would pay off in the long run,” junior Dylan Yoon said.

The PS5 is a much more powerful version of the PS4, and it is better at loading content. The PS5 costs $500, the same as the Xbox Series X.

The Xbox and PS5 both have their own exclusive games. Sony is generally known for having better exclusives than Microsoft, owning the rights to several popular games. The exclusive Spider-man game on the PS5 has been living up to its much anticipated hype.

Both the Xbox and PS5 are similar in structure and price. The Xbox released on Nov. 10, while the PS5 followed on Nov. 12.

Both the Xbox and PS5 will allow old games to transfer to the new devices. “Games are always very expensive, so this was important for me,” Yoon said.

Students have been having trouble purchasing the new consoles online because of the high demand. “I wasn’t able to preorder the Xbox, so I might not be able to buy it until the holiday season. It sucks because my friends were able to get it, but I wasn’t,” junior Jackson Brunner said.

Several stores have consoles for Black Friday, but they will sell out quickly. “I probably would have to stay overnight on Thanksgiving because there will be limited stock,” Brunner said.

Junior Jack Mehler received his Xbox Series X in the mail two days after the release. “I’ve been playing a lot already and it is really great. I’ve been playing NBA 2k21 a lot, and the graphics are amazing,” Mehler said.

The outrageous prices can be an issue for gamers. “I’m not going to buy the new Xbox because I don’t play that often, so it is smarter for me to continue playing my old one,” junior Harris Blumberg said.
The Xbox and PS5 are similar, making it difficult to decide between the two. But in the end, they are both great options for any gamer.
