The team has six newcomers and is looking for contributions from everyone this season.

The team is comprised of one freshman, two sophomores, three juniors and six seniors. Two of the seniors returning are Zoey Goldberg and Katie Gillick, the first and third highest scorers for the team respectively.

Last year, Goldberg averaged 12.3 points per game, 2.3 assists per game and made about 40 percent of her shots while Gillick averaged 8.7 points, three assists per game, while she shot around 36 percent on the season. “We have a lot of new players and we have a good mix of younger and older players. I feel that with the roster we have, we can significantly improve our record from last year. I think we can be a really good team,” Gillick said.

So far the team has played two preseason scrimmages. The team played well while trying to get familiar with one another. The team has been playing hard and has been doing a good job in the transition phase of the game while running the floor well and making good passes. The team has been focusing on improving their offensive and defensive rebounding. In addition to this, the team has been trying to improve their communication while on defense.

Among the players returning from last year, the cream of the crop is Goldberg. She has been on varsity since her freshman year and once again looks to lead the team. “Zoey is a really good player and I don’t know what the team would do without her. Whenever the team needs to score we know we can count on Zoey to come through especially in crunch time,” junior Mary Quackenbush said.

This year’s team projects to improve from last year as they only lost two players, who were averaging six points per game, while still retaining the team’s leading scorer and their leader in assists from last season. “I know we’re good enough to win more games than we did last year and I feel like this team is poised to do it,” Goldberg said.

The team’s first game of the season is today at home against Magruder.
