The girls’ have been able to sustain their lengthy winning streak over the last few games as their successful season is nearing its end.
Both of their last two games resulted in big wins to keep the streak of five games alive, with the exception of Quince Orchard, which had to be cancelled due to inclement weather on Sept. 29. Whether or not the game will be rescheduled has yet to be announced as of Oct. 7.
On Sept. 27 the girls traveled up to Seneca Valley where they looked to add to their list of wins. The results proved successful as they came up with a demolishing win, beating the Screaming Eagles 6-0.
After the game against QO was cancelled, the team had an extensive break until they hosted Northwest on Oct. 6. Northwest proved to be one of the toughest opponents of the season as they held the girls to the very end. The Patriots scored first with a goal from sophomore Haley Parsons, however the Jaguars were quick to respond, tying the game up 1-1.
The game went back and forth with plenty of chances from both sides, but it was among the last minutes when a goal from sophomore Lexi Zinselmeier stole the win for the Patriots. “It’s a great feeling to score a goal in such an important and competitive game,” Parsons said. “But it was a team effort that got us the win in the end.”
The girls are now 5-2 after winning five games straight, which is an impressive turnaround after starting the season 0-2. Now, with what was most likely their last game on Oct. 10, the team looked to go in with their heads held high as they took on a tough Damascus squad. The game was played too late to be covered in this issue.
Although the team may be sad that the season flew by, there’s no doubt that each player is proud of what she accomplished and is ready to finish the season with one last win. “It was a really fast season but that’s because we all had so much fun. I’m confident that we’ll end the season with our sixth win in a row,” Zinselmeier said.
