As homecoming excitement swept through the school, students came together for one of the most vibrant weeks of the year: Glochella Spirit Week. Inspired by the energy of music festivals and the anticipation of the big dance, Glochella transformed the halls into a celebration of creativity, community and school pride.
The week kicked off on Monday with “Dress Up as Your Favorite Celebrity Day,” encouraging students to channel their inner stars. From movie icons to pop sensations, the halls were filled with red-carpet-worthy looks. The day also featured Musical Chairs in the Commons, a playful activity that set the tone for the spirited week ahead. “Musical chairs in the Commons was so much fun because I was actually surprised at the number of people that played and how competitive it really was. I did not win, though,” junior Tyler Saingbe said.
Tuesday brought “Twin Day,” a classic favorite that highlighted friendships and coordination. Pairs and groups of students matched from head to toe, some with perfectly planned outfits and others with humorous or ironic takes on the theme. It wasn’t just about matching clothes; it was about matching energy, creating a fun and connected atmosphere throughout the school. The day also featured Wootton Feud in the Commons, a lively competition that got students cheering and participating in a friendly rivalry.
By Wednesday, the school had turned into a California dreamscape with the theme, “LA Girl vs. Surfer Boy.” Beachy outfits, sunglasses and tropical vibes took over as students dressed for the sunny West Coast lifestyle. The activity of the day, “Guess What’s In the Box,” added a mystery twist, giving everyone a chance to test their luck and sense of humor.
Thursday’s theme, “Class Themes,” invited each grade to express their unique spin on homecoming’s music-festival energy. Students dressed according to their class’s homecoming music genre, filling the halls from rock-inspired outfits to disco glam. To add to the festival flair, students created bracelets reminiscent of real festival wristbands, making the day feel like a school-wide concert. “This theme was my favorite because I got to dress up as Soulja Boy, and I think it was really funny to walk around the halls like that,” junior Malia Bellamy said.
Finally, Friday wrapped up Glochella with “Class Colors,” a true display of unity and pride. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors all put on their designated colors, transforming the school into a glowing sea of red, blue, white and black. The pep rally that followed was a highlight of the week, bringing together the entire school to celebrate athletic teams, class spirit and the upcoming homecoming festivities. “Last year’s Gloco was pretty hype, so this pep rally kind of made me excited for the night that was coming ahead, like the football game and then the Glochella, which I knew was going to be so hype,” junior Londyn Fraley said.
As the lights dimmed on Spirit Week and homecoming approached, one thing was clear: school spirit was stronger than ever. Glochella had set the stage; now it was time to keep that energy glowing for the big night that was ahead.
