Whether a school decides to plan a casual or formal homecoming event, the tradition calls for formal wear. Even with Gloco, a casual homecoming alternative that took place in the lower gym on Oct. 10, students from this school donned formalwear. The event also included group buses and other means of travel to D.C. to take photos at the monuments and grab dinner in the city. The demand for homecoming dresses this year was higher than ever, with students who bought their dresses months ahead to avoid the inevitable rush for a dress at the last minute.
Every year dress brands stand out in order to match what’s trending, and with the demand for dresses finally settling down after the event, some designers stood out more than others.
Peppermayo
A popular brand only recently, Peppermayo is the perfect place to find dresses that are good quality and look refined. Their styles and patterns are not too simple but not too busy, giving students the perfect balance in style and ample opportunity to choose from hundreds of dress choices. “I loved my Peppermayo dress last year,” junior Dylan Neustadt said. “It was light pink and of such good quality. The only thing I would say is that sometimes the prices can be a little high, but I think that most of their homecoming dress options are pretty well priced.”
Revolve
Revolve is a perfect option if you’re willing to splurge. Although their prices can vary, their options tend to be more expensive than other brands. However, in their more expensive prices, they make up for in quality and one-of-a-kind styles. Also, if students are willing to dig a little deeper through their mini dress options, some are surprisingly inexpensive considering the brand’s upscale, refined reputation. “One of my homecoming dresses was a pink mesh off-the-shoulder Revolve dress, and I’ve worn it so many times even after homecoming,” junior Hailey Goldberg said.
Princess Polly
Princess Polly sells a wide variety of clothing not specifically focused on dresses, but still known for having good quality clothing. Although they offer fewer options than other brands that are more focused on homecoming dresses, their versatile styles and expensive looking designs make up for their smaller number of dress options. “My homecoming dress this year is from Princess Polly,” junior Gia Micalizzi said. “It’s a dark pink magenta color in satin that is off the shoulder and fits so perfectly. What I also like about it is that since it’s satin it’s actually comfortable and not itchy or overheating like other dresses can be.”
American Threads
American Threads isn’t well known, but their brand is solely focused on dresses, specifically for homecoming, and they offer great options that are such good quality that they feel like they’ve been hand-made. Their best styles are their sequined dresses, which differ in color and style. The best thing about their sequined styles is that the dresses aren’t too flashy and overwhelming; instead the sequins are more subtle. “I have a hot pink sequined dress from American Threads that I wore to my friend’s homecoming,” senior Alina Parikh said. “My biggest takeaway is that since it’s a smaller, not as well known brand, the dress really feels like it’s handmade and from a boutique because it’s such good quality.”
