All throughout the school year, students play games on their phones like Candy Crush, Block Blast and Crossy Road. However, other games are slept on by students and deserve more recognition.
A game that not a lot of students know about is called Box Cat Jam. It is a puzzle game where players have to match colored cats with each other in order to clear the board. It is a fun and challenging game when you’re trying to pass time or cure boredom. “I really like Box Cat Jam because it makes me think and challenges me with different obstacles like timers and locks that need to be unlocked before you can progress further in the level,” senior Leanne Brown said.
A more well-known but still highly underrated is Baseball 9. In this game, players just play baseball. Similar to a game like MLB The Show, players create and upgrade a team while playing other teams throughout the season, aiming to win the championship. Additionally, as players win more championships, they progress to higher leagues that are harder yet more rewarding. “I love how customizable all the players in Baseball 9 are. I can give each character different bats, gloves, batting gloves and even hitting guards. That’s just the gear customization too, you can also customize each player’s different body types, faces, hitting stances and even change the pitches that your pitcher throws. It really feels like there are endless possibilities,” junior Andrew Lim said.
An Apple Arcade Exclusive game, Sneaky Sasquatch is an open world stealth game where players play as Sasquatch sneaking around the wide and expansive map, completing challenges and playing minigames. Players have the opportunity to collect different disguises, allowing them to traverse more and more of the map without being caught. Players can participate in activities such as golfing, racing and working in the city; there are countless things players can do that keeps the game feeling fresh. “Sneaky Sasquatch is a really fun game and it sometimes feels like a game that you would play on a console instead of your phone. The graphics are really good, along with the huge map that I’m surprised runs well on my phone without lagging,” senior Nathaniel Dates said.
A game that is simple yet fun is The Bacon Game. The objective of the game is to balance a piece of bacon on whatever object is in front of the player and the object varies depending on the level. Objects can vary from statues to TVs to animals. The game never gets boring, especially with the fact that the game is constantly getting updates from the developers, RAC7, in order to keep the game fresh for players. “I really love the most recent update to the game, the developers added a feature where you can fast travel to different portions of the map in order to get around quicker. This was a big complaint in the community so I’m glad that they listened and did something about it,” senior David Goke-Dele said.
