Tous les Jours Cakery and Cafe is a self-serve pastry shop that has recently opened in Rio in Gaithersburg. The restaurant is the replacement for the well-known Corner Bakery that used to be in that location. During the highly populated weekends, the cafe will be able to draw a crowd and continue to succeed.
The restaurant has a French-Asian origin that started in South Korea and moved to the States after significant success in the West. According to Franchise Times top 500, there are “more than 70 cafes stateside, 1,631 worldwide and $697 million in system sales in 2021.”
The cafe serves a variety of pastries ranging from chocolate-stuffed croissants to cream cheese garlic bread loaves, pizza on a baguette and lemon-iced banana bread. All the options are around the $5 price tag. The restaurant is organized for a customer to walk in, pick up a tray and tongs, and go through the maze of baked goods till they find their way to the checkout counter, where drinks can be purchased.
On Friday, Feb. 28, sophomore Manuella Poggio visited the shop and checked out the young and happening spot. Poggio picked out a few items with the tongs, then checked out before taking the first bite. “Inside the cafe, it is painted with very bright and welcoming colors. As for the food, I enjoyed it because it was like a French pastry but with a modern twist,” Poggio said.
The cafe goes deep into making customers feel at home with a family atmosphere. The bakery offers a wide array of freshly baked breads, pastries, and cakes, alongside a selection of coffee and tea beverages. Sophomore Evan Batbold, who visited the bakery on Saturday, Mar. 1, noticed the bakery’s growing popularity, attracting new customers ready to try their unique selection. “As soon as I walked in, I smelt fresh bread and sweet pastries. There were a lot of options, which made it hard to choose, but everything looked really good. I ended up getting a few different things, and they all had their own unique flavors,” Batbold said.
I visited the restaurant before a trip to Dave and Busters. I was hungry but tired of getting the same Chipotle, Burgerfi, and the other restaurants in Rio. I was in search of a new taste when I saw the bright white and green sign. The restaurant has a comfortable seating area, similar to a Starbucks interior but larger. The pastries were packed with flavors of all sorts. Some are sweet, like the pain au chocolate (chocolate bread), and the croque monsieur (grilled cheese with ham), which is salty. There are so many choices between the two, giving an ultimately flavorful experience.
