As students enter semester two, there is a lot to look forward to and memories to reflect back on. This past semester students had a sports to play and clubs to join, such as flag football, soccer, basketball, swim and dive, the Breakfast Club, Multicultural Club, Homework Club and more. Students also tried new courses and potentially transitioned to new teachers in the second semester.
Even though semester one is known as more of a fun, easy-going semester, it can still be stressful. Senior Mani Javanbakht said, “Despite the past semester being very stressful and tiring, lot’s of memories were made, and it is now over with spring approaching.”
Students are proud of finishing the semester off strong and meeting personal goals. Junior Zoi Bourazani said, “I feel proud of myself for getting good grades and starting to stay on top of my work.”
Bourazani is the president of the Multicultural Club and takes AP classes, all while studying for her SAT test, so the workload can be a lot to manage. “I am proud of myself for being able to balance all of these things, at first it felt like a lot but I was able to make a good routine,” she said.
School sporting events were a favorite this past semester, building camaraderie within the community. Friday night football games along with winter hockey games seemed to be the most popular. Senior Brenden Famulare said, “I feel like semester one went pretty well. Football games were a good time especially as a senior. I had basketball season to look forward to as well, which we are still currently in.”
Seniors had the opportunity to have an internship this past semester. This schedule consists of having an abbreviated class schedule and up to three periods for an internship. Internships can be off campus or within the building. Senior Salwa Moumneh has an internship schedule this year and said, “This semester was a new experience for me in a good way. Balancing my internships with school and college applications was a lot to handle, but it helped me improve my time management skills. Some subjects came easier than others, but I worked through struggles by adjusting my study habits and working on not procrastinating this year. I also learned more about myself, what motivates me, what overwhelms me, and how I can always improve moving forward.”
A new school-wide event that SGA put together this past semester was the winter ball. All grades were able to attend a dance located at the Marriott in Rio to dance, take pictures and eat. Moumneh attended the event and said, “The dance had an uplifting energy everywhere. People were having fun and smiling with their friends.”
Although the rush of returning back to school, fall sports, and joining in on new clubs are behind us, there is so much to look forward to for the spring such as theater productions, prom, junior banquet, field trips and fundraising activities.
