As students move into the second quarter, they feel a mix of emotions. From Friday night football, fall season sports, joining clubs, meeting new people, homecoming, and adjusting to new classes and teachers, there is a lot to reflect on from the first quarter.
Junior Zoi Bourazani said she is happy with her classes and her teachers. “Looking back on this quarter I’m so happy that I decided to take AP psych. Mrs. Bauer is an awesome teacher and makes the class so engaging. I am interested in what I am learning, which makes such a difference.”
While the first quarter of school is labeled as the most fun quarter because students are fresh out of summer and are eager to get back to school-wide events and activities, there is also a rhythm that students have to quickly adapt and get used to. It is important for students to keep up with their workload, sports and clubs, jobs and internships, all while keeping up with hobbies and maintaining a social life. Senior Kailey Waxman said, “I think that the first quarter was really fun because there were a lot of school activities like football games and homecoming but it was also hard to adjust to the workload and finishing college applications in time.”
Quarter one is also known as one of the more rigorous quarters for seniors. Senior students have to juggle the academic workload from their required classes and college applications being due between Oct.15 and Nov. 1, which can get overwhelming. Senior Mohammad Uddin said, “I feel like marking period one of my senior year went really good. Especially with having a half day schedule, it left me more time to focus on the subjects that I enjoy the most. I got a solid GPA that I am happy about because all the classes felt easier since I didn’t have to stress about other classes as much. Fewer classes helped me focus on other areas such as college applications, because of the less work I had to deal with I had more time to finish applications in the meantime. With that being said, I’m trying to stay alert. I know that things will change and get harder as the year goes on. But as for right now, I’ve had a good start and plan to keep myself focused. I’m exited for the rest of the year as it unfolds. I’m hoping to maintain my grades while also making the most of the senior year experience.”
Even though marking period one has come to an end, there will always be the fun memories that came from the quarter to reflect on and there is a lot to look forward to as the year progresses.
