The Leading Against Litter Club is led by senior co-presidents Kian Kaz, Toby Subiela, Max Greenberg and Jake Skilas and aims to educate others on the dangers of pollution.
The Leading Against Litter club was created because the presidents want to help the issue of global warming and how it will get worse in the future. The club hopes to achieve these goals by scheduling regular clean ups. “One repeat event is clean ups at schools and parks,“ Subiela said.
The Leading Against Litter meets on Thursday and Friday in the lecture hall. In these meetings the club discusses issues here at the school and in the surrounding neighborhood. ”We usually meet around once a month either on a Thursday or a Friday during lunch in the lecture hall“ Subiela said.
The club is looking for people to join their club with a long list of available roles. The club is looking for new members to input their ideas on how to help the school. “Some roles at the club are a treasurer, an SSL coordinator, a secretary design coordinators, a logistics coordinator and over 200 general members,” Subiela said.
Outside of school the club hosts clean ups in Potomac, Rockville and Bethesda every two months in order to keep the areas clean.“One repeat event is trash clean ups at schools or parks,” Subiela said.
The club benefits the school community by trying to educate others on the dangers of global warming and pollution. “We educate members about environmental issues and we hold events to improve the state of the environment,“ Subiela said.
The Leading Against Litter Club was created because the school lacked a green team and the co-presidents thought that creating a club like this could benefit the school. The club’s creation has helped the school and surrounding neighborhoods because of their trash clean ups “I realized that the school had no green team and thought that it was needed so I created the Leading Against Litter to advocate for improving the environment,” Subiela said.
The club’s biggest accomplishments that they have achieved are having 200 members join their club. Another of their biggest accomplishments is getting Cabin John Middle School certified as a green state school. “Our two biggest accomplishments are that we’ve grown to have over 200 members,” Subiela said.
The club is trying to improve in different ways and one way is they are hoping for new members to input more ideas. The club is trying to recertify the school as a green state school. “We want members to input new ideas for us because we want to recertify Wootton” Subiela said.
The Leading Against Litter Club’s main goal is to educate members about environmental issues in Montgomery County and to make the school a state green school again. The club hopes to achieve these goals by having new members join the club and try to help and input any ideas that they may have. “Getting the Wootton recertified is a goal the club hopes to achieve,” Subiela said.
