Students have access to different types of education at this school. Options include having a full-time schedule consisting of seven periods a day and dual enrollment, where students take classes at Montgomery College. An internship schedule allows students to do either a singular, double, or triple period of interning within the school building, or outside of the building with a company of their choice. Each of these schedules play a crucial role in shaping a well-rounded student.
Junior Zoi Bourazani has a full-time schedule of seven classes a day. “I like having a full schedule because it allows me to have enough time every day to focus on each class for at least an hour. My favorite class that I am currently taking is AP Psychology because I find it so interesting and it is something I hope to study after high school,” Bourazani said.
Senior Isabella Hovian has an internship schedule. “My internship is at a local preschool and I’m one of the teachers so I help with the activities and watch the kids. I work from 12:30-5:30 p.m. and I have periods six through -eight off everyday with a full morning schedule,” Hovian said.
Senior Duke Ampofo is a dual enrollment student. “I take political science and English 101 at Montgomery College. I think that dual enrollment has allowed me to experience college but still have the comfort and support of being in high school,” Ampofo said.
While there are different educational opportunities within this school, sometimes students may need extra support to be the best version of themselves. Linkages to Learning is a community-school partnership that highlights the importance of community engagement and leadership to support student learning and strong families. Linkages to Learning is an award-winning prevention and intervention initiative established by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.
The goal of Linkages to Learning is to help assist students and their families by connecting them to services and resources that they need. Linkages to Learning has been a successful company for the past 25 years in Montgomery County, and serves 31 school communities. Within those 31 schools, nine of the schools are a part of a larger school-based health center, which offers expanded primary health services. Linkages to Learning has the goal of ensuring students are ready to enter school daily, and be academically successful.
