As students begin to pour back into the halls from a long summer, with old faces gone and new ones arriving, the welcome back bash helped students get back into the routine and have fun.
The SGA decided to welcome students back to school with a celebration on Aug. 30, with popsicles, games and celebrations in the Commons, helping new students settle in and returning students settle back into school. “The purpose of the bash was to get kids more excited about the beginning of school and help new students settle in,” SGA president Alex Balian said.
SGA began its planning for the bash at the end of the last school year. It was created to replace the fall pep rally after the administration told SGA they could only have two pep rallies over the whole year. “Admin told us we could only have two pep rallies after school so we decided instead of having a pep rally during advisory we could replace it with the bash,” Balian said.
After unexpected rain came at the time of the bash, it was moved to the Commons, however none of the activities were affected by the change and the event still had a large turnout. “I think it went very well considering we had to move it last minute and we had a very good turnout even though it was changed to inside last second,” Balian said.
More events like the bash are planned for the future, such as the Patriot Palooza in the spring, which will be on the field. In future years there will be similar events in place of the first pep rally to help underclassmen meet people. “We’re going to have events similar to the bash in future years to replace the first pep rally [but] we’re not sure if it will always be the bash,” Balian said
The bash was cost-effective as the only money spent was buying the popsicles. “The bash was much cheaper than other events we’ve done in the past, making it easy to plan and have it in future years,” Balian said.
The purpose of the event was to help underclassmen and new students meet new people and get familiar with the school. Freshman Nathan Neeches attended the event and enjoyed playing games, talking to people and eating popsicles.”It was a really fun experience. I talked to a lot of people and It was a great chance to socialize with friends and take a break during the first week of school,” Neeches said.
Returning students who were settling back into their routines at school also enjoyed the bash. Sophomore Skye Cushing used the bash as an opportunity to see friends while playing games and socializing. “The bash was really fun because I got to talk to people and reconnect with people who I didn’t talk to over the summer while also meeting new friends to begin the new school year,” Cushing said.
