As summer break approaches, the end of the second semester is right around the corner. From spring sports coming to an end, to academic achievements, seniors committing to colleges and planning for the upcoming school year, there is plenty to reminisce about and more to be excited about.
Semester two is known as the more rigorous semester. Students may tend to lose motivation or get overwhelmed with prepping for and taking AP exams. Junior Jennifer Miranda takes AP Psychology and AP Environmental Science, “My experience taking the classes were good because of my teachers. Mrs. Bauer, Mrs. Buckingham and Mr. Forsburg made the classes very enjoyable to take,” Miranda said.
Throughout the second semester, events took place to help hype up students and to end the year on a positive note. Events such as the color run, wootball, prom, junior banquet, senior assassin, International Night, show productions and the spring pep rally encouraged students to destress. Junior Josie Spicer participated in wootball earlier this month. “I thought it was fun. It was a good way to end out the school year and bring people who played in my grade closer together since we played by class,” Spicer said.
Senior Lauren Smith has feelings about the last couple months of school. “This year, especially when doing college applications, it taught me about procrastination and how to manage stress while having to do school work and sports on top of writing essays for colleges. I regret not enjoying the beginning of the school year because I was so focused on one thing. But now that I know I’m going to University of Tampa, I’ve been able to be present and enjoy being with my friends for the last time at Wootton. I feel like it’s important to cherish high school because it goes by so quick and you can only do it once,” Smith said.
Sophomore Zoi Bourazani enjoyed this year but is eager for a fresh start. “I enjoyed my sophomore year a lot but I am excited for junior year. I am going to take classes I find interesting like AP Psychology rather than only the required classes to graduate like I did freshman and sophomore year. I am also excited for junior banquet and getting my driver’s license,” Bourazani said.
Junior Salwa Moumneh feels bittersweet about the second semester. “I’m proud of how hard I tried in my classes and how much effort I put into taking notes and asking questions to make sure I understood the material correctly, however I regret not studying in advance and always waiting last second to start studying knowing I can do better if I start earlier and don’t procrastinate,” Moumneh said.
