The varsity girls’ lacrosse team finished their regular season with a record of 9-3. The girls started off by beating their rivals, Churchill, 10-6 in the first game of the season, followed by a winning streak, beating Watkins Mill 20-0, Magruder 17-1, Richard Montgomery 16-5 and Rockville 20-1.
The team was led by sophomore Maya Bellamy with an outstanding 50 total goals scored, accomplishing this milestone on May 13, in the regional championship win over Magruder 14-3.
The girls were blowing through playoff competition, beating Kennedy on May 10, with a landslide win,18-4. After their win against Magruder, the team was set to play Northern High School in the state quarterfinals on May 16. The team lost against Northern, 19-6 in the state quarterfinals, ending their hot streak. “Watching the team play and succeed as a JV call-up is fun to watch seeing that I’ll be a part of this in the years to come,” sophomore Danielle Rubin said.
The varsity boys’ lacrosse team finished their regular season with a record of 3-9.The team finished some games with close scores such as losing to Blair, 5-4 and Richard Montgomery, 8-6. “All the close games really could have gone both ways, but we never gave up and never let the results get in our heads,” sophomore Zach King said.
The team entered the playoff set to play Rockville, being a favorable matchup. The team had beaten Rockville earlier in the season 11-10,, on their senior night, with senior Everett Field scoring a leading four goals and three assists and senior Daniel Son scoring a last-minute goal to secure the win. Junior Connor Jackson had an outstanding 28 saves on 38 shot attempts.
With that win behind them, the team entered the playoff matchup holding the heads high. However, in the playoff game on May 10 at Rockville, the team lost 10-9, in overtime. Standouts were senior Matthew Repie, who had two goals and two assists, and Field, who had three goals and two assists.“We have played like a team this season through all the adversity we faced. We will always be brothers and play like a family,” senior Zorawar Singh said.
