The golf team is rolling along, preparing for states. They currently sit at third place in the county with 11 wins with an average score of 154.83. Senior Ben Bloch said, “It’s good to see all of our hard work pay off and translate to our matches. We have been playing well and hope to keep it up.”

They trail only Churchill and Sherwood in wins and Churchill, Sherwood and Walter Johnson in stroke average. Juniors Ethan Chelf and Ryan Feldman and senior Yuvraj Singh are currently in the top 25 in score averages for the state. Chelf is sixth with a 37.00, Feldman is 16th with a 38.40 and Singh is 20th with 38.83. Singh said, “Overall it’s been a good season, but we have a lot of important matches ahead of us. It’s important that we keep up our momentum.”

The Patriots came off a strong districts match placing seventh and having four players qualify for states. Bloch shot an 82, Chelf shot a 73, Singh shot an 84, Feldman shot a 77, and junior Brandon Eig shot an 89. Chelf, Singh, Feldman and Bloch will be representing the Patriots at states on Oct. 28 and 30 at the University of Maryland golf course. Chelf said, “Luckily, my teammates and I have some experience in the state match because it is a whole other atmosphere. We have been preparing for this all season though and are excited to be in this position.”

The Patriots finished this season 11-6-1. Feldman said, “There were some matches we wished we could have back, but overall we played well and set ourselves up in a good position for states.”

Last year, golf placed third in states and hope for a higher placement this year. The talent is always there but the big stages seem to get to the team. “We are very excited this year to show what we have. Our best players are more experienced now and I hope we can finally get that ring. We deserved it for many years and I know this is the year we win,” Bloch said.

Yurvaj Singh is also very confident in their team’s abilities. “Our team has only gotten better and better, and with the experience from the past three years, I feel like our players are poised for a great run in states this year,” Singh said.
