The boys’ soccer team has not faced defeat all season long.

The 6-0 Patriots faced off against Quince Orchard on Oct. 12. Senior midfielder Alec Wroblewski drew a penalty inside the box. He scored the penalty kick low on the right side for the first goal. The score was close throughout the game. The Patriots were dominant in time of possession, but missed several close opportunities. Wroblewski had a game-sealing goal in the last 10 minutes to put the Patriots up more, and ultimately win 2-0.

The Patriots played a Friday night lights game against Northwest on Oct. 4. The Jaguars scored first. Their lead lasted three minutes: senior striker Andy Ram sent a ball from around midfield to Wroblewski in the box. Wroblewski timed his jump correctly and headed the ball in, making the score 1-1. Senior midfielder Francis Meyer had a goal with six minutes left in the half, putting the Patriots up 2-1. Senior midfielder Gabe Pernie scored the Patriots’ third goal early in the second half. With 16 minutes remaining, senior goalkeeper Jonothan Lee made a crucial penalty kick save. The final score was 3-1, a Patriot victory. “I’m pumped we came away with the win, that was a big one,” Lee said.

On Oct. 8, the boys matched up against Gaithersburg. According to the Washington Post, Gaithersburg is the third best DMV team. The first goal came on a through ball that Meyer passed from midfield, and senior midfielder Griffin Ford finished with a strike inside the far left post, giving the Patriots a 1-0 lead. The game was defensive: no other goals were conceded. The final score was 1-0, Patriot victory.

Senior night was Oct. 14. against Springbrook. The Patriots celebrated their 14 seniors. “Tonight was amazing and emotional as Matthew [Kopsidas] celebrated his senior night as an injured senior captain who did not actually play one minute of his final year. Coaches and refs allowed him to take the field for a two second start in his second home. Fans family and teammates cheered, cried and loved Matthew,” Matthew’s mother Marina Shellhas said.

Meyer assisted Wroblewski for the first goal. The next goal came soon after, Ram assisted senior midfielder Jonathan Comberos to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead. Springrook scored two minutes later. Wroblewski responded with a goal two minutes after that to give the Patriots a 3-1 lead. Ford had the final goal of the half, giving the Patriots a 4-1 lead. The final score was 5-2, Patriots on top. This win put the boys at 10-0 on the season

Wroblewski has 18 goals this season through 10 games, with two games left plus the playoffs. Matt Hoys’ single-season goal scoring record is 26 in 2012. The team has 42 goals this season, the most ever in team history was 66 goals in 2012. Meyer has 10 assists and needs one more to break the single season record. Games vs Rockville Oct. 17 and Whitman Oct. 19 were too late to be included in this issue.
