Field hockey looks strong heading into playoffs

Field+hockey+looks+strong+heading+into+playoffs

The varsity field hockey team has come back from two rough losses with a dominant win against Einstein on Oct. 14.

The team started strong from the beginning with a goal from senior forward Alexa Kantor in the first 10 minutes. The other three goals were scored in the second half by junior midfielders Kirby Child, Darcy Touchette and another for Kantor. “This game really worked as a confidence booster, and now we’re most positive going into our next games,” senior Leah Kellert said.

The game against Quince Orchard on Oct. 10, did not go as well. The team fell just short with a score of 1-0 against the Cougars. With many scoring opportunities by forwards junior Quinn Luginbeel and senior captain Kendall Clark, the team still couldn’t find the goal. “This game was really rough because it was really close and I really thought we were going to come out with the win,” Clark said.

A few days prior to the tough loss against the Cougars, the Patriots were victorious in their game against Wheaton on Oct. 7. The team dominated the field throughout the entire game with goals from Touchette, Lugenbeel, Clark, Child, and junior midfielder Laura See. The Patriots worked together and were able to create good plays and find the back of the goal numerous times. “During our game against Wheaton we all worked really well together and had a lot of trust in each other,” sophomore Emily Levine said.

Before the good win against Wheaton, the Patriots took another tough loss against rivals the Churchill Bulldogs on Sept. 30 with a score of 3-0. The switch from turf to the grass at the Bulldogs field threw the team off. It was hard to adapt to the rough change of setting, which led to all three of the Bulldog’s goals to be scored in the first 10 minutes of the game. Once the Patriots settled into the grass field and hard competition, they didn’t let in another goal. Unfortunately, the team still wasn’t able to get a goal. “The game against Churchill was hard because it’s our rival and we always want to beat them,” senior Mia Silver said.

The Patriots next game was senior night on Oct. 18 against Blair, too late to be covered in this issue.
