The varsity baseball team had a matchup versus the Watkins Mill Wolverines on Apr. 29. The squad was fresh off of their first loss in nine games, in an extra inning loss versus Whitman.
Going into the fourth inning the score was 13-0. They were ready to put away the game right then and there. They ran up the score, adding eight more runs to force the mercy rule.
The final score was a 21-0 victory. The game ended in four innings. “We were ready to get back on track after losing for the first time in so long against Whitman. We played our game and dominated from start to finish,” senior Harrison Cance said.
Next, the squad went on the road to face the Rockville Rams on May. 5. The game remained scoreless for the first three innings. Both teams scored four runs in the fourth inning.
The Patriots began to lead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to go up 7-4. They took care of the Rams and gave up no runs for the rest of the game. The final score was 7-4, Patriots on top. “I’m glad we came away with the win, it’s important for us to finish the season strong,” sophomore Nate Bowman said.
On May. 5, the Patriots played at home versus the Walter Johnson Wildcats. The Patriots wanted to keep everyone fresh, so they rotated four pitchers in through the game.
In the fifth inning the Wildcats scored the first run of the game. The Patriots tried hard to climb back into it, but batting struggles made it hard to do so. The Wildcats scored another run in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead.
The final game of the regular season took place on May. 6 at Poolesville. Both teams started scoring early. The Patriots had a 4-2 lead after the first inning. The Falcons added two runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to one. But the Patriots responded instantly with three runs of their own. The Patriots fought hard and took down the Falcons 13-5. “I’m glad we got a win right before the playoffs, we need to continue to play like this every game so our season doesn’t end,” junior Andrew Misovec said.
They won their first playoof game 4-2 with great pitching from Junior Dev Zoks and senior Ryan Mariani. Their next playoff game is May 17, against Clarksburg.
