The Patriots finished the season 9-2, one win shy of tying their record from last season. JV baseball usually plays 12 games every season, but their game against Springbook got cancelled. “Overall it was a great season, I am very proud of the boys,” Coach Robert Acevado said.
The boys ended the season against an always strong competitor, Whitman. The game was slow until the fifth inning, then the Patriots got it going. Freshman middle infielder Brady Weiss, freshman catcher Jack Mehler, and freshman outfielder Ryan Binder all contributed in the fifth with RBIs. Freshman catcher James Walsh and Weiss both led the team with two hits each.
Freshman Liam Miller started on the mound for the Patriots, going a total four innings while only giving up three hits and two runs. Going into the the seventh inning the Patriots were up 4-2, when Whitman came storming back and scored a total of five runs. The Patriots were not able to overcome this scoring and lost 7-4. “I felt we played really well, but we could not close it out late. Overall it was a great season, but we fell short of the goal at the end,” concussed sophomore middle infielder Kevin Friedman said.
The boys defied expectations this season as they lost many key starters from last year’s team. They basically had the same record as last year’s team, and played one less game than last year’s team. “I thought we defied expectations and had a great season,” Walsh said.
Due to the cancelled Sprinkbook game, the boys played an intersquad scrimmage against themselves.
Walsh, Friedman, sophomore middle infielder Hank Breen, and sophomore third basemen Brian Garmer were all called up to varsity at the end of the JV season. “I am very honored and excited to play on varsity,” Breen said.
The future looks bright as they have a freshman heavy team, and with only a few sophomore starters leaving from varsity, the boys look to go for an undefeated season next year. “I am very excited for what the future brings and look to improve for next season,” freshman outfielder Dason Miller said.
