Students across the school are getting excited to join singers and bands on their tours this summer.
Freshman Riya Singh considers concerts as perfect getaways to have fun with friends. “I absolutely love concerts. I have gone to several different concerts in the past. My first concert was for my birthday. My friends and I went to a concert and it was the best night of my life. I can remember the lights and the dancing and singing, along with the awesome music,” Singh said.
Sophomore Ritika Naiknavare agrees that concerts are fun, but also acknowledges that the “fun” factor is not the main reason to attend a concert and that people should rather attend for the music and performer. “I think concerts are a great place to have fun and relax, especially over the summer. You should go to concerts for the music. Before I attend a concert, I listen to the music of who I’m seeing so I know all the lyrics to every song and can sing along. This way I can get super pumped about it too,” Naiknavare said.
Students have already started participating in these events, even though school has not ended. Sophomore Dimagi Kottage attended a concert on May 6 for The xx Tour. The English indie band displayed their music from the album “I See You.” “The last concert I went to was the XX with Sampha at the Merriweather Post Pavilion. My friend and I had lawn seats, and although it was a little rainy, we had a great time. I am definitely planning on going to more concerts this summer,” Kottage said.
In June, the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore and Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia are booked with musical performances.
On June 6, Royal Farms Arena hosted Chance the Rapper. On June 14, Royal Farms Arena will be hosting Journey with special guest Asia on the American rock band’s tour. The group formed in 1973 and has earned 19 Top 40 singles and 25 Gold and Platinum albums.
On June 20, John Legend will perform at Merriweather Post Pavilion. He is touring his 2016 album “Darkness and Light.” The album is the fifth studio album by the American singer. Five days later, Luke Bryan will perform at the same venue for his album “Huntin’, Fishin’, and Lovin’, Every Day.” The solo singer is debuting his music on his fifth tour.
