Coming off of a tough loss to Quince Orchard, the Patriots battled against the Northwest Jaguars on Oct. 5. This game did not go in the Patriots favor, as they came away from the game with a 3-2 loss.
The referees had a big part in the Patriot’s loss, a series of their bad calls. There are those games when the referees make just a few bad calls that could go either way, but in this game, as well as the game versus Quince Orchard, the referees had an enormous impact on the Patriots. “We tried our best versus Northwest, trying to play our game, and not play down to how the refs were calling the game,” sophomore Camila Pacheco said.
At halftime, the Jaguars were up 1-0. In the second half, the Patriots scored two goals in a row. Sophomore Rebecca Yuan and sophomore Macy Fewell needed the two goals for the Patriots. After these two goals, the Jaguars scored two of their own, creating the final score of 3-2. “It was a tough game with a last second loss, I know that we all tried our best and played really well overall,” sophomore Lainey Morris said.
On Oct. 9, the Patriots traveled to Burtonsville to face off against the Paint Branch Panthers. The Patriots came away from the game winning 7-0. At halftime, the score was 3-0. Four goals were quickly scored by the Patriots in the second half, allowing for the team to posses the ball, and keep their lead and their shutout. Captain sophomore Alexa Folk played in goal for the Patriots in the first half and Yuan played the second half. Both goalkeepers, sophomore Amy Kraft, and sophomore Sarah Levine, played in the field for the Patriots during this game, giving Folk and Yuan the chance to have a little fun and experience what it is like to be a goalie.
In their final game of the season, the Patriots took on the Walter Johnson Wildcats. At halftime, the Patriots were down 3-0. Soon after the second half started, the Wildcats scored two goals, making the score 5-0. Though being down, 5-0 in their last game of the season, the Patriots did not give up. The Patriots netted a goal to make the final score 5-1. This was a tough way to end the season but the Patriots gave everything that they had against a strong Wildcat team. “This season is better than I could have ever imagined. I have made so many new and close friends, and I have had so much fun, all at the same time, while becoming a better soccer player,” freshman Leah Starr said.
The team hopes for more success next season as the freshmen will become veterans on the team next year.
