Georgetown Seafood brings freshness to city of processed foods
With the closing of Luke’s Lobster last spring, seafood fans in Georgetown were anxious as to where they would now buy seafood. However, shortly after the closing of Luke’s Lobster, a new restaurant, Georgetown Seafood, opened in its place. Located near favorites such as Good Stuff Eatery, Georgetown Cupcakes, and Levain Bakery, Georgetown Seafood is a relatively new restaurant committed to serving fresh portions of anything from fish & chips, to lobster rolls.
When arriving in Georgetown, one is usually overwhelmed by the amount of options they have for food and other activities. This was initially my reaction when I was recently there, but Georgetown Seafood became the attractive choice for their near perfect score on Google reviews (4.9/5). Upon arriving in the small, quaint restaurant, one is immediately bombarded with decor, such as photos of fishermen and wood carvings of sea creatures, which give the restaurant a particularly cozy atmosphere.
I decided to order the fish and shrimp combo – which comes with fried cod, french fries, fried shrimp, coleslaw, and tartar sauce – and I was met with nice employees who displayed professionalism, to the extent of even learning my name. After ordering the fish and shrimp combo, I headed up the stairs to the second level of the building, which is decorated with a television and more fishermen photos. Although the combo meal is quite expensive, charging me around $30 with tax, it was one of the best seafood meals I have ever had, which surprised me considering the rather dull exterior to the restaurant. “On the outside, Georgetown Seafood may not seem promising, but I was blown away by the welcoming atmosphere and the flavorful, fresh food,” junior Zane Ghalib said.
After receiving my food, I immediately went for the fried fish. Not only was the fish perhaps the freshest fish I have ever tasted, the crust that enclosed the fish was crispy and well-seasoned, beautifully complementing the succulent flavor of the fish. On its own, the fish is delectable. However, I find that the tartar sauce gives a more pronounced and better flavor than the fish by itself.
Similarly, the fried shrimp bursted with flavor. The shrimp tasted immensely fresh, and the crust that enclosed the fish was nicely crisp. The fries also lived up to my expectations with being crispy on the outside, while soft on the inside. I also decided to order the hush puppies, the flavor of which was perfectly balanced with sweetness and savoriness.
While Georgetown Seafood may be one of many places that one can go to in Georgetown, it is a place that one must not miss because of the fresh food and welcoming atmosphere. It is because of this that I give Georgetown Seafood a perfect score of 10/10. “Although getting a meal from Georgetown Seafood is quite expensive, the meal was definitely worth the price. Inshallah I will be back here soon,” Ghalib said.
