Anything Goes podcast with Emma Chamberlain: Huge hit with young adult audiences
Since the beginning of her career at age 16, influencer Emma Chamberlain has been charming the hearts of millions. Even with over a million people tuning into her podcast, she always manages to be candid and relatable.
Discussing a variety of topics throughout the show, the title speaks for itself; anything does go on Anything Goes. Chamberlain gives advice, gets philosophical, discusses fashion trends and shares embarrassing stories. “Now that I’m older, I’m more interested in things being more creative rather than just pure entertainment – things that feel more beautiful,” Chamberlain said to The New York Times.
Popular among young adults, Chamberlain has a great deal of responsibility on her shoulders to be a good role model. She talks to her audience with respect, validating their struggles and guiding them through delicate situations smoothly. “She’s like the closest in-age influencer that’s famous, which makes her more relatable. I like listening to her thoughts about a vast array of topics,” sophomore Saanvi Gadila said.
Chamberlain tells stories of her feeling like she doesn’t fit in her industry, embarrassing relationships she’s been in and her high school dilemmas. “I’ve been through phases where people were like: We lost her. There’s no way she’s going to continue to be relatable. I can’t speak to these people directly, but in my mind I was screaming, no, I promise you that’s not going to happen! Because what is relatable about a person is the way they see the world,” Chamberlain said to The New York Times.
Chamberlain tends to seem more relaxed and laid back than other internet personalities by her nature: in her video podcasts she’s often seen in her bed, wearing a pair of oversized glasses and a hoodie with her hair undone and a mug of coffee next to her. Even when speaking about going to the Met Gala or fashion week she makes herself seem like a regular person who happened to get invited to these events, and when she covers more serious topics, her demeanor puts her audience at ease and makes the topic seem more manageable. Over the course of her podcast, Chamberlain’s audience also gets to see her grow as a person and develop her opinions more thoroughly. Her thoughts change and she sometimes takes back a statement, a refreshing reminder that people you look up to still make mistakes and evolve.
Even with her astronomical success, Chamberlain still manages to be grounded and make her audience feel comfortable. The timelessness of her episodes and her lighthearted tone remind listeners not to take life too seriously. Now a Spotify exclusive, the podcast is sure to grow even further, with the inclusion of guest interviews to come. Her podcast is one to go to when you feel lonely, need a laugh, want to think or need a break from the gravity of everyday life. No matter what you’re going through, there’s always an episode for you on Anything Goes.
