As the school year starts to wrap up, students are starting to change their focus from their school work to exciting summer events. Although summer may seem to go by too quickly, in reality there are many days of the summer to do something fun. Teenagers have already started to plan summer events in advance, such as the Chance the Rapper concert on June 4, the Chainsmokers concert on May 26 and the Kendrick Lamar concert on July 21. These concerts give students the opportunity to listen to artists they love, bond with friends over music and have some summer fun.
The Chainsmokers are an American producer and DJ duo that continues to please its audiences with numerous hits. The duo won a Grammy for the best dance recording at the 59th awards ceremony, which helped the group gain recognition and popularity. In April, The Chainsmokers released the album “Memories…Do Not Open,” which has brought the group into a whole new spotlight. Students like sophomore Jessica Trzeciak have caught onto the increasing popularity of the Chainsmokers and are going to the concert on May 26. “I love the song, ‘Closer’ and I’m so excited to see them in person for the first time,” Trzeciak said.
Chance the Rapper performs in Bristow, Virginia, on June 4 where he will perform songs from his Grammy Winning album “Coloring Book.” Coloring Book won album of the year and is most known for his hit songs “No Problem” and “Angels.” Chance’s second mixtape was released in July of 2013 and has been downloaded over one million times. He began to go on night shows such as Saturday Night Live and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert due to his increasing adoration by fans everywhere. Students such as sophomore Jared Rabin are avid Chance listeners and will be attending his upcoming concert in Bristow. “I’ve been listening to Chance for as long as I can remember. At this point in his career, he is the best in the game,” Rabin said.
One of the hottest rappers in the game is Kendrick Lamar from Compton, California. Followed by the release of his two singles, “Humble,” and “The Heart Part 4,” Kendrick released his fourth studio album, “DAMN.” He begins touring in early June and ends the tour in early August. The new album was ranked number one on the Billboard 200 chart and his single, “Humble” was number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2012, Kendrick Lamar saw lots of success when he released “Good Kid, m.A.A.d City.”
Travis Scott and D.R.A.M will perform as well at his concert at the Verizon Center on July 21. Students such as sophomore Harrison Cance are huge fans of Kendrick and listen to his music all the time. “Kendrick is my favorite rapper because he tells a story about his life while really entertaining and showing love to his fans,” Cance said.
