Audiences didn’t know what to expect when the trailer for Sony’s “Uncharted” was released. However, on Feb. 18 questions were finally answered once the movie premiered.
SPOILER ALERT: Don’t read any further if you haven’t watched it yet and don’t want it to be spoiled.
Fans were excited to see what would happen in this upcoming film. The majority of the film’s audience remember the video game the film is based off of. They had high expectations and there was huge anticipation building on this movie.
Sony’s “Uncharted” is an action movie based on a four-part video game franchise with the same name developed by Naughty Dog. The franchise follows a group of treasure hunters who travel across the world to uncover various historical mysteries. The first game of the franchise, titled, “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune,” was released in 2007, and as each part was released the more crazy adventures the characters went on.
The movie is primarily based around the fourth part of the franchise titled, “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” released in 2016. It starts with a treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan recruiting a street-smart Nathan Drake to help him recover a 500-year-old lost fortune amassed by explorer Ferdinand Magellan. However, their expedition later turns into a treasure heist where they have to try to work together to find the treasure before ruthless Santiago Moncada does.
The excitement grew exponentially once the epic cast list was announced of Mark Wahlberg playing the role of Sully and Tom Holland playing the role of Nathan Drake. In addition, Sophia Taylor Ali played the role of Chloe Frazer and Rudy Pankow played the role of Sam Drake, which fans were also thrilled for. In addition, there were other incredible actors and actresses who were also involved in this project who fans can’t wait to see in theaters.
To add to the anticipation, fans were hesitant about Sony casting Holland as Nathan Drake. Fans believed that Holland looked nothing like Drake and was too young to play the role. They were also questioning the quality of the film because they have a time seeing it in another format other than a video game and don’t know how good their interpretation will come across.
Despite the criticisms, Sony’s “Uncharted” is doing well and getting great numbers. As of Mar. 14, Sony’s “Uncharted” has made $300 million in the box office worldwide. In addition, it is getting amazing reviews from the audience.
I won’t spoil anything else about the film, you will have to just wait and see. However, “Uncharted” has the viewers in store for something special, with lots of laughs, drama and action to look forward to. We can only hope that they continue to do well in the box office. There might be the possibility for a sequel.
