Spring sports are on the rise as teams started practice on Tuesday, Mar. 1. These boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams have been preparing for the first practice throughout the winter. The first days of practice are also tryouts for the teams. The boys’ tryouts will be run by returning Coach Ralph Bernado.

For boys, cuts are often made after the second or third day of practice. Students have the opportunity to play on junior varsity or varsity, depending on their eligibility. A student can not play junior varsity for more than two years.

The boys’ scrimmage within the team and split into two groups and play. Junior Harel Sabag said, “We have a group chat where we organize our own little practices and scrimmages just to get ready for the season as a team.”

Sabag is also working individually, a method shared with other boys on the team. The boys’ group chat is on snapchat and this is where they plan their practices and communicate.  Sabag said, “I’ve played since freshman year. We lost our first season due to Covid but sophomore year was lots of fun and I can’t wait for junior year, along with our entire group chat we are excited.”

The varsity boys’ team has not worked out together yet like other spring sports have, such as baseball who had workouts Tuesdays and Thursdays, the teams first day together was on March 1st. The boys’ schedule consists of 12 games, playing rival  Churchill  on Apr. 7. They open up against Clarksburg on Tuesday, Mar. 22 at 7:15 p.m.

The girls’ lacrosse team has been working hard in the offseason as well, and played in a fall and winter league. Similar to baseball, girls’ lacrosse also worked out twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Junior Gillian Berman said, “Since the beginning of December, the seniors have been running conditioning every Tuesdays  and Thursdays for an hour. There was also a fall ball league, which many people signed up for.The team is working out together, the workouts usually consist of 15 minutes of running and then 45 of working on stick skills, learning how to play the game and going over the rules.”

The girls’ season is 12 games long, followed by playoffs. The varsity girls also open against Clarksburg on Mar. 22, and will play the rival Churchill on Apr. 7.
