Starting in 2007, Apple has made 28 different types of phones and on Sept. 24,  Apple released their next new phone, the iphone 13. The iPhone 13 already has over two million pre-orders and is only getting more popular, but what makes the iPhone 13 so special?

The first thing that people are excited about is the appearance of the iPhone. First Apple made the phone a little smaller than usual,  5.4 x 6.1 inches in size, also releasing new colors for the iphone like gold, graphite, silver, sierra blue and pink. Lastly, the 13 has a smaller notch at the top, making it easier to see your battery percentage at the top of your phone. “I really like the new colors that are offered for the iPhone 13 also the smaller notch is a great improvement because on the other phones the notch would bother me,” senior Samantha Keller said.

The iPhone 13 also has new camera settings. Macro photography now comes with the 13. Its redesigned lens and powerful autofocus system, and new Ultra Wide camera that can focus at just two centimeters, all make the smallest details seem incredible. For example, it can transform a leaf into abstract art and capture the fuzz of a caterpillar. Also there are improvements in video with Macro video. Macro stills are just the beginning –  you can also shoot macro videos, including slow motion and time-lapse. The 13 also has 2.2 times more light, along with a night mode for more detailed photos in any light. “I love taking photos on my iPhone and hearing the new modes and camera quality. I can’t wait to get out and explore the new settings of how I can take pictures and see which ones work for me,” sophomore Carolyn Fu said.

The iPhone has even more technology adjustments. A 120Hz refresh rate means it makes animation and scrolling look smoother and gaming more immersive. Also, there has been a big improvement in the battery life, with about two hours more battery life than the iPhone 12. A big problem in iPhones throughout the years was water ruining the phone but now the 13 has a IP68 water resistance rating. The smartphones are able to withstand a depth of up to six meters (19.7 feet) for up to 30 minutes. “One of, if not my favorite activity to do on my phone, is play games and hearing about the new improvements in the animations and scrolling of the games gets me even more excited to start playing on the iPhone 13 and the water resistance is an added bonus,” freshman Gavin Grange said.

If you have an iPhone 12 I would not recommend getting the iPhone 13 since the models are similar to each other with the 13 having a few added bonuses. If you have an old iPhone and need to get a new one, I would recommend the iPhone 13 because of the new updates.
