The varsity boys’ soccer team has been busy. Following their loss to Quince Orchard on Sept. 15, the team has played seven games. Within these seven games, the boys have won one of the five, and tied in one, making their overall record 1-6-2.

Two days after the Quince Orchard loss, the boys retaliated and secured a high scoring, dominating win against Watkins Mill away on Sept. 17. It was a blowout, and the boys came home with a 6-2 victory over the Wolverines. 

Junior Matthew Serrano scored the first goal for the Patriots, assisted by senior Sachin Krishna-Rogers. The second goal came from senior Ian Repie, who was assisted by senior Ted Otengo. Senior Nick Jones came in with the third goal, with an assist again by Krishna-Rogers. 

The fourth goal came from junior Ty Coonin and was assisted by Krishna-Rogers. The fifth goal came from junior Josh Mirsky and receiving an assist once again from Krishna-Rogers. Junior Felipe Lemgruber-d’Oliviera scored the final goal of the game and was assisted by senior Miles Wiley.

This was the first win of the season for the team, and everyone was ecstatic.  “Scoring a goal for your team has no better feeling. It feels great to celebrate with your teammates and know you had a part in a team victory,” junior Josh Mirsky said. 

After some much needed rest over the weekend and during the following week, the team hosted Northwest on Sept. 23. The boys fell to the Jaguars, suffering a 1-0 loss. 

On Sept. 28, the Patriots, looking to come back from the previous week’s loss, hosted the Whitman Vikings. The team couldn’t pull through with a much wanted victory, and fell to the Vikings 1-0. 

Two days following, the team went on the road to play Walter Johnson on Sept. 30. While on a two-game losing streak, the boys looked to stop the bleeding, but  fell once again, this time to the Wildcats in a damaging 4-0 loss. 

On Oct. 5, the boys hosted their big rival, Churchill, for a 7:15 p.m. battle. The Patriots were shut out once again, suffering a brutal 3-0 loss. This stretched the team’s losing streak to four games, with the Patriots suffering from a lack of offensive presence in the past four games, scoring a total of zero goals. 

On Oct 7, the team hosted BCC for a 7:15 night game. It was a close game, and the team ended up tying with the Barons 1-1. Senior Ethan Moon scored the only goal in the game, unassisted, on a free kick. 

Most recently, the boys headed to Richard Montgomery on Oct. 12 for another 7:15 night game. Once again, the boys were shut out by the Rockets, with a final score of 3-0. “The team needs to rally together and shake off the poor form. We have three games left in the season and are working hard starting at practice to turn this season in the positive direction,” senior Nick Jones said. 

The boys play next on Oct 18 at 5:30 against Poolesville.
